Latigo, Doubled and Stitched
Most doubled and stitched reins are built from harness leather. We build ours from latigo on purpose. Latigo gives you a softer hand from the first ride, more drape through the body, and a feel through the bit that harness leather doesn't match. Doubled up and stitched together, it keeps every bit of that feel — and gains the heft and structure a serious rein needs.

Weighted Where It Matters
The last 15 inches of each rein gets a third layer of latigo, stitched in to add weight at the ends. That weight is what makes the rein drape clean off the bit, hang steady in your slack, and settle quickly when you let it out. It's the difference between a rein that floats and a rein that works.
Ready to Ride
Most doubled and stitched reins ship stiff. You buy them, you ride them, and you wait three months for them to break in. Ours don't work that way. Every pair is oiled, conditioned, and hand-rubbed before it leaves the shop — broken in by us so you don't have to break them in yourself. Pick them up, snap them on, and the feel is right from the first ride.
Paired Together, Born Together
Every set is cut side by side from the same side of leather — same hide, same grain, same weight. Both reins ride the same, drape the same, and break in the same. No mismatched pair. They were born together. They ride together.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between doubled and stitched and single-ply split reins? Doubled and stitched reins use two layers of leather stitched together, with a third layer added at the weighted ends. They're heavier, have more drape, and have a more substantial feel in the hand. Single-ply reins use one layer of leather — they're lighter, softer, and have a quicker break-in. Most serious horsemen choose doubled and stitched for show, training, and finished bridle horse work. Single-ply works for general Western riding, ranch work, and trail use.
Do these need a break-in period? No. Every pair is oiled, conditioned, and hand-rubbed before it ships. The feel is right from the first ride. They'll continue to soften slightly with use, but you won't fight a stiff rein.
What length are these reins? Standard length is 8 feet. We can cut from 6.5' to 8' on request — leave a note at checkout with the length you want and the weight you prefer.
Will these work with a snaffle bit or a curb bit? Both. The waterloop tie ends attach cleanly to any standard bit ring.
