Leather Care

The leather care we use on our own bench, sold by the jar. Skidmore's Leather Cream is an all-natural beeswax conditioner with nothing in it that will rot stitching or darken leather more than it should; the 6 oz tin covers belts, wallets and a headstall or two, and the 16 oz is for a tack room. The Premium Leather Care Kit adds glycerine saddle soap for cleaning so you are not conditioning dirt into the grain.

Harness, bridle and latigo leather all leave our shop oiled, and the oil is what keeps the fibers flexible. Sweat, rain and sun pull it back out, and a dry strap is a strap that cracks. Clean with saddle soap, let it dry out of the sun, then condition; a couple of times a year is plenty for tack, once a year for a belt.
