Why Latigo Leather
Latigo is the right leather for a rein that gets used. It's softer in the hand than harness leather from the first ride, grippier when your hands sweat, and it sheds the lather a hard-working horse throws up at the neck. It also breaks in fast — these reins feel right out of the package and only get better with time.

The Maker's Mark
Every pair is stamped with the Tyler Shupe Leather mark before it leaves the shop. Hand cut, hand rubbed, signed. Built one set at a time in Indiana.

Made by Hand, Built to Be Trusted
These reins are made to be used and not thought about. The latigo will darken with sweat and hand oil. The hardware will keep snapping clean for years. The dark oil will hold its color. And the rein will keep doing what it was built to do — getting out of your way so you can ride.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long are these reins? They average about 7 feet but range from 6.5' to 8' depending on the hide. The conway buckles give you up to 12" of adjustment per end to fine-tune the length to fit your horse and your hands.
What's the difference between the 1/2" and 5/8" width? The 1/2" rein is lighter and smaller in the hand — good for kids, riders with smaller hands, or anyone who wants a finer feel. The 5/8" is the standard Western width — more substance in the hand, with the feel most adult Western riders expect. Both are cut from the same latigo.
Will these work with a snaffle bit or a curb bit? Both. The scissor snaps attach cleanly to any standard bit ring. Pop them on or off in seconds for bit changes.
Are these good for kids and beginners? Yes — they're one of the most common reins lesson barns and family barns use for new riders. The one-piece design means there's nothing to drop or tangle. The scissor snaps make bit changes easy. And the 1/2" width gives smaller hands a rein they can actually close their fingers around.
