Why Buckaroo Style
A buckaroo strap is one wide, shaped piece of leather instead of two narrow straps buckled together. The body wraps the front of your boot in a single sweep, the keyhole slots drop over the spur buttons, and the short billet takes up the adjustment through the buckle. More leather across the instep means the strap lays flat, doesn't twist under the boot, and stays put when your foot is working. It's the pattern the Great Basin cowboys settled on for long days horseback, and it's why the style never went out of fashion.
The Leather
Wickett & Craig has been tanning harness leather since 1867, today out of Curwensville, Pennsylvania, the slow way, in vegetable tan pits, then hot-stuffed with oils and waxes until the fibers are loaded from the inside. That's what gives this strap its deep chocolate color and the firm, waxy hand that resists stretching under the buckle. Every pair is then dipped in conditioning oil, fully submerged so the oil works into the fibers instead of sitting on the surface. You skip the stiff break-in: they buckle around your boot the day they arrive, then settle to its shape and get better every season they're used.
The Buckle
Jeremiah Watt hardware is what serious tack makers reach for, and the Horseshoe Brand cart buckle is the piece that makes this strap. A clean stainless steel square frame carrying hand-styled floral scrollwork, with the background blacked in so the carving reads from across the arena. Stainless won't rust or pit through wet mornings and sweaty boots, the tongue seats cleanly, and it will outlast the boots it's strapped to.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which size to order? Measure from spur button to spur button around the front of your boot. Men's covers 8" to 10.5"; Women's/Kids covers 6.75" to 8.5". Most adult men's boots land in the Men's range, most women's and kids' boots in the Women's/Kids. If your measurement falls in the overlap, either size will fit — choose Women's/Kids for a trimmer strap or Men's for more leather across the instep.
Do these need a break-in period? No. Every pair is oil-dipped before it ships, so they arrive supple and buckle smoothly from the first ride. They'll soften a touch more with use, but you won't fight a stiff strap.
Do these fit my spurs? Yes. The keyhole slots drop over standard spur buttons, so they work with the spurs you already own. They pair with silver-mounted show spurs and plain working spurs alike.
How fast do they ship? Pairs in stock ship quickly from our shop. If your size is sold out, reach out through our contact page and we'll let you know when the next pair comes off the bench.
