Tyler Shupe Leather
Latigo Cinch Strap, 1.75" x 6.5' Dark Oil — 12oz Leather
The least expensive piece of equipment on your saddle is also the one most likely to fail. The latigo holds it all together — and most riders don't think about it until the day it breaks.

The Piece That Holds Everything Together
Your latigo is the most-worked piece of leather on your saddle. It tightens and loosens your saddle multiple times each day, soaks sweat, drags in mud, and rubs against the rigging every ride. Every other piece of tack on your horse can be premium and still be useless if the latigo gives out.
It's also the least expensive piece on your saddle — which is why most riders ride one until it cracks, and then ride one more season because it still looks okay. That's how saddles end up sideways.
These are built to be the one piece of tack you stop worrying about.
Pair It With an Off Billet
A near-side latigo only does half the job. The off side of your saddle needs a matching off billet (single or double) to balance the rig and keep the cinch level under your horse. We make both — and we'd recommend replacing them as a pair so you're not riding new leather on one side and worn leather on the other.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my latigo needs to be replaced? Check the section that wraps through the cinch ring — that's where wear happens first. Look for thinning leather, deep cracks, dried-out spots that won't take oil, or any stretch that's making it hard to keep the cinch tight. If you're not sure, replace it.
Want to see exactly what to look for? Watch our quick guide on how to use your latigo and spot the signs it's time to replace it.
Will this fit my saddle? Yes, as long as your saddle has the standard 1.75" rigging slot — which covers almost every Western saddle made in the last 50 years. If your saddle is older or has unusually wide rigging, measure your current latigo before ordering.
Do I need an off billet too? Yes. The latigo goes on the near (left) side. The off side needs a matching off billet to hold the other end of the cinch. We make both single and double off billets — replace them as a pair for an even, balanced cinch.
How long will this last? Depends on how hard you ride. A weekend trail rider can get many years out of one. A working ranch hand or daily roper might wear through one in a season or two. Either way, replace it before it fails, not after.
